new music festival [24 Jan 2007|06:22pm]

I'm not sure if anyone in this community is from the New York area, but I am an organizer for a new music festival called Make Music New York. On June 21st, 2007, the entire city of New York (all five boroughs) will be covered in music. Professional and amateur musicians will fill up sidewalks, parks, and community gardens, making public space throughout the five boroughs will become impromptu musical stages, dance floors, and social meeting points. We have a permit that will allow musicians to perform in any outdoor area of their choice within the city.

This event is based on a worldwide music festival often called Fete de la Musique (it originated in Paris in 1982) that takes place in over 250 cities every year. For some reason, this celebration of live, free music has not made its way to New York until this year.

Because this is a new festival we need as much help as possible. If you would like to perform or if you know anyone who would be interested in performing, please e-mail me at sarah@makemusicny.org. I am specifically in charge of organizing world music artists, but I will find performance space for musicians of any genre. All performers will be listed in local New York City newspapers and posters will be provided.

If you would like more information about Make Music New York, please visit our website: www.makemusicny.org. Once again, if you have any questions or would like to sign up (!), please email me at sarah@makemusicny.org

hi? [12 Mar 2006|12:06pm]

hi, i'm new here, i'm a vegan mandolin player... </introduction>
i dont know how politically active people here are, but seeing as how it's about the freedom and the music (reference: life), i thought i'd mention the musician Todd Snider. for those who don't know him, he's a political singer- he toured with Yonder Mountain String Band in 2004.
alright, have a nice day

new music from mayfairgrin... [18 Feb 2006|01:54pm]

for those that like my musical efforts, i've uploaded a new mayfairgrin track to mannequinoddio.com called "in the sky at dusk". the best way i can describe it is the way i am currently feeling emotionally, spiritually, and socially. it's beatless, ethereal, and wandering shoegaze.

RIYL: godspeed you black emperor!, my bloody valentine, sigur ros, soulwhirlingsomewhere, slowdive, low, loveliescrushing, earth, etc.

new from mayfairgrin... [16 Oct 2005|01:00pm]

...a track titled "la misericordia del Cristo". it's a little bit of everything with strong leanings towards the EBM, trance, and electro genres rather than anything experimental or ambient, though very ethereal. comments and criticism are encouraged.

any DJs willing to spin this?

(we got this from "Bring out your dead" from myspace)

Animal Liberation Is Our Fuckin Liberation!!!

I was supposed to just repost this....so i did, and im gonna put it in a blog so more people will see it, IT DOESNT TAKE LONG JUST DO IT!

To all the animal lovers! (repost)

It only take a minute!!!!
Your assistance is needed. Please pass this site along to everyone on your mailing lists, and repost as often as possible.

The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click daily to provide free food for rescued and abused animals. If you're an animal lover like I am, please take 2 seconds out of your day, knowing you'll be helping to provide for these precious animals.

When the site opens, click on the purple box that says 'Feed an Animal for free'. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Add this to your "Favorites" and help out alittle.. That's it! Pass this website address along to people you know that might give two shits. And repost and bug all your friends to help. Thank you dudes..

{ pelicagnosis } [14 Dec 2004|11:19pm]

now available from webbed hand records.

The title of Pelicagnosis is no empty play on words. These four tracks do venture quite some distance into the realm of gnosis. Here is a blend of ambient sounds with addition of guitar, vocals, and other instruments, resulting in a feast for the ears. A look at the credits for each track will show you that this isn't a weekend warrior laptop production. This thing is big, and there's a depth and devotion being expressed here that merits a deep and devoted listening.

this is a net-label release and free for download. check it out... if for no other reason that one of jenna fronczak's beautiful and deeply spiritual songs is included.

feedback is encouraged...

Hello, I'm Rana, and I'm a vegan in a band. Wow, I sound like I'm at Al-Anon or something. RIGHT.

Well, um, hm. I play guitar and sing for my "band." I say "band" because we're just starting off, and we don't really have a decided name yet. We're just four kids who play instruments together in the bassist's garage. Literally. My boyfriend (the lead guitarist) and I are both all about about animal rights, and he's a vegetarian. We play a lot of emo-punk stuff. Not that shitty neo-emo shit, but yeah. The good stuff.

I love Bright Eyes and soy hot dogs.

mayfairgrin studio notes... [16 Apr 2004|08:54pm]

i just finished editing/remixing "the compassion and the love of the living" and "china blue disco" for Azulene, which is taking longer than what i had expected because -sigh- i keep making changes and fine tuning everything.

check out "the compassion (love of the living mix)". it rocks. i'm glad it finally turned into something i like after months of experimenting with it.

both tracks don't really fit into any one genre, but i'd say that they're still comparable to, or in the vein of The Orbital and Future Sounds Of London. but because i love ambient, industrial, shoegaze, and electronica; it's a good blend of all those genres without totally being one or the other.

so far the track listing looks like this:

1. drop the beat (prelude)
2. azulene
3. we have walked behind skies
4. tilt
5. azulene (ecstacy remix: by sleepwalkingboy)
6. the compassion (love of the living mix)
7. china blue disco (azure edit)
8. unseen (fractal edit)
9. hover
10. azulene (goodbye mix)

that's about an hour right there, but i may add another track or two. also, i'd like to use the mayfairgrin version of "rh.factor" i did for Automate...
